How to make brush time a Hapee time

IMG_3800

I can’t remember the exact time I’ve let my child hold her toothbrush. But until now, brushing time still requires adult supervision. We have days when it’s a struggle for my three-year-old to brush her teeth but she knows that there is no escaping this routine.

I’ve found out that Riri is more likely to brush her teeth when we make it fun for her. Here are some of the tactics which we have proven to work:

  1. Sing nursery rhymes while brushing the teeth. Repeat the song if need be until brushing is done.
  2. Position toys near the area where you do the tooth brushing. You can also do pretend play with the toothbrush, toothpaste and cup. You can also play a game.
  3. Put a timer like the one blue owl in the photo.
  4. Let your child choose the toothbrush.

Dra. Pritzi Arce,  Riri’s dentist, has advised that she use 1000-1450 ppm fluoride of pea-sized amount which is suitable for 3 years old and above. She added that toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 to 4 months. It is still best that children should visit the dentist to have their teeth checked as early as 12 months or when their first tooth has come through.

“Dental hygiene is something that needs to be prioritized by parents. We should teach them young so they would be able to make oral care a lifelong habit and not something that is a chore and a bore,” she emphasized.

Hapee Kiddie Toothpaste contains 1000 ppm fluoride which is just the right amount of fluoride and comes in flavors which your kids will love such as Tutti Frutti Twist, Bubblegum Pop, Juicy Grapes, Strawberry Bloom, Orange Squeeze and Apple Crunch.
