I’m 5 years older than my metabolic age which means my body is already 42 years old. This is according to the Tanita’s Body Composition Analyzer.
How did this machine arrived at such a result? The Tanita scale considers an individual’s height, weight, age and gender to estimate the body composition by using the Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis technique. This scale looks like any regular bathroom scale but the electrodes under the scales’ metal foot sensors send a gentle electrical signal through the body to measure body fat. The one who took the results made a background check first on how physically active I am, etc. All these factors have contributed to the added years on my metabolic age.
I was sandwiched between health buffs, JC Intal and Stephanie Zubiri Crespi who were my seatmates at the Anlene event. Both had their metabolic ages younger than their actual ages. Failing at the test was something I wasn’t too happy about and which had me reassessing my current sedentary lifestyle. Running after a toddler, it turned out, didn’t count. Yes, who am I kidding?
I’ve learned that 60% of the Filipino workforce is ageing – prematurely at that! Premature ageing is oftentimes the underlying cause of exhaustion affecting energy levels, productivity and the ability to do certain things. It is largely brought about by lifestyle choices – more and more people choose what’s fast and convenient over healthy options.
“Half of the Filipinos aged 19-60 are not getting enough protein while more than 90% don’t get enough calcium. This can lead to bone, muscle and joint deterioration according to Fely Velandria, registered nutritionist dietician.
Fonterra Brands Philippines’ nutrition manager, Jo Ann Salamat added that the low bone density and poor muscle mass may affect one’s ability to stay active and to keep up with day-to-day challenges. “Unfortunately, with everyone’s busy lifestyle, balancing work, family and traffic, we tend to compromise on our food choices, sleep and exercise. That’s why even younger adults are experiencing premature ageing,” she further stressed.
Anlene understands that adults now live increasingly busy lives. And it is because of this that the brand had made it their advocacy to have Filipinos opt for achievable, healthier lifestyle choices.
At the event, the newest flavor of Anlene was also introduced – the White Coffee. Coffee drinkers can now enjoy the benefits of milk through the new variant as each glass of Anlene can provide you with:
- Twice the calcium of regular milk and 100% of an adult’s daily calcium needs
- High protein for muscle development
- Collagen, unlike other milk brands
Anlene is making it really easier for us to get our daily intake of nutrients. Let’s combat premature ageing by taking one glass of (coffee variant, for this momma) milk a day.
